About Us

The Government and the Australian public demand a lot from our servicemen and women, whose way of life is fairly unique. This also presents unique opportunities and challenges. RAAF Welfare activities are a way for Commanders to foster motivation, energy, enthusiasm of, and ‘mateship’ between our workforce in a social, less regimented team setting. In turn, this helps develop leadership, morale, welfare and esprit-de-corps between Australian Defence Force members, Defence Public Servants and long-term Defence contractors (collectively the Australian Defence Organisation) at our RAAF bases under CAF’s ‘one team’ vision. The RAAF Richmond Flying Club (RRFC) is one such RAAF Welfare activity that strives to connect ADO personnel (from RAAF Richmond and other Military bases in the Sydney area) via participation in General Aviation and the sharing of professional military and civil experiences. The RRFC has operated at RAAF Richmond as a not-for-profit Club since 1985 and is strengthened by a stable and mutually beneficial balance of ADO and civilian memberships. The management Committee, Chief Pilot/Chief Flying Instructor and Club Instructors unselfishly volunteer their personal time to enrich the experience for the benefit of others – we are very grateful for their efforts. The Club has a down-to-earth atmosphere, but enjoys a generative safety culture and strives to make our flying experiences as professional and hassle-free as possible. As a serving Military member, a dependant of a Military member, an ex-Military member, a Defence Public Servant or a full-time Defence contractor in the Sydney region (> 6 months), you are entitled to join the RRFC as a Full or Affiliate member. Membership is principally aimed at the Australian Defence Organisation and while membership is not exclusive, civilian memberships are limited and formally re-validated at each AGM (in accordance with governing RAAF Welfare Orders and Instructions). That said, the RRFC also fosters constructive engagement with the local community and if you can genuinely benefit the Club as a whole, the management Committee will gladly consider your Honorary membership application. The clubhouse is located at the Western precinct of RAAF Base Richmond, on the Base Perimeter Road just inside the “back gate”. Access is limited to Club members with the appropriate Base Security Pass, which can be arranged subject to a successful membership application and Australian Federal Police security checks.
